Travel Hockey Program

Program Overview

We are proud to be one of the state's most expansive girls' programs, with a broad offering of travel teams from highly competitive national bound to competitive development teams.

Our travel team program is our largest, with over 200 players, 10 teams (U8 – U19), and typically multiple competitive levels of play at each age bracket. Our scale, development focus, and multi-league participation (NEGHL, CHC, and CGHL) create a path for our players to continually advance to their next level of play.

Coaches work hard to match the commitment and intensity to the competitive level. Teams average two weekly practice sessions, league and non-league weekend games, and tournaments. Travel is State, Regional, or National and linked to league participation.

Last Round of Tryouts
Our last wave of tryouts are for U16 & U19 players:

  • Monday, April 15: 5:30 pm-6:40 pm
  • Tuesday, April 16: 5:30 pm-6:40 pm

Tryouts are held in Northford. Please check in at least 45 minutes before the start time.

2024-2025 Season

Welcome to the Shoreline Sharks 2024-25 Girl's Hockey travel team tryouts. We greatly appreciate your interest in joining our organization.

When registering for tryouts you will be presented with three options.

1.  14U, 16U, 19U Tier II National Bound Tryouts

2. 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16/19U Non-National Bound Tryouts (CGHL)

3. Attend Both tryouts

Tryouts for our national-bound and non-national-bound teams are separate.  National-Bound teams are focused on experienced players looking to play at the highest level of competition. These teams require significant on and off-ice commitment and are not for everyone. Our CGHL teams are very competitive but play more of a state-wide schedule.

Competitive Team Options

TIER II NATIONAL BOUND PLAY

  • National & Regional Competition
  • Teams: U14, U16 & U19

We started competing at the Tier II level in 2016-2017. Quickly, we earned a reputation for having the best Tier II program in CT, giving our exceptional program leadership and an unparalleled record with numerous tournament titles, including the 2017 and 2018 USA Hockey Championships. We're known for our development-centric model and unwavering player loyalty.

We're committed to advancing our athletes to reach their next level of hockey, whether it's "prep" school, high school, college, or anything else.

TIER I & TIER II NON-NATIONAL BOUND PLAY

  • State & Regional Competition
  • Teams: U12

Heading into the 2021-2022 season, we've added Tier I and Tier II at the U12 level, giving options for more competitive play for those ready. Like all our programs, it's centered around player development that builds a strong hockey foundation for long-term player growth.

Teams in this age bracket are not eligible to participate in the National USA Hockey Championship tournament; however, they will participate in State and Regional tournaments.

OTHER NON-NATIONAL BOUND PLAY

  • Mostly State Competition
  • Teams: U8, U10, U12, U14, U16/19

Our CGHL program started in 2000 to feed the Guilford Girls High School team. Over the years, it's grown to be the most extensive all-girls program in the state, with players from over 35 towns. Grounded in development, the program has earned a reputation for providing girls of all ages options at various competitive levels - from new to the sport to experienced.

The time commitment for our CGHL teams is significantly less than our tiered teams. Additionally, our team structure is dynamic, intending to provide as many girls as possible the opportunity to play travel hockey. We adapt and modify our team structure to meet the needs and competitive levels of our players.

2024-2025 Tryout Information

Our 2024-2025 Tryouts for our national-bound and non-national-bound teams are separate. National-bound teams are focused on experienced players looking to play at the highest level of competition with long-term hockey goals, including college hockey.

Our non-national bound teams provide a range of competitive hockey through league participation. We will add teams or provide additional competitive rigor to ensure players are challenged and advancing their development.

2024-2025 Season - Wonderland Teams

The Shoreline Sharks all-girls youth hockey program is partnering with the Wonderland Wizards to provide all-girls team options for families who are interested in playing exclusively on an all-girls team or dual-rostering with an all-girls program. For the 2024-25 season, we anticipate two Sharks Connecticut Girls Hockey League (CGHL) teams being based at Wonderland, led by coaches Bill Garfield and Matt Sather.

For younger girls who have been playing on co-ed teams, this opportunity allows you to become familiar with the Sharks organization (a locally based all-girls program) in anticipation that you may eventually move to an all-girls team at the bantam/U14 age group. It would also allow you to continue playing with the friends and families that you have made in co-ed hockey if you choose to dual-roster. For those who are interested, it unlocks access to higher levels of girls’ hockey play in future seasons with a program that has been dedicated to girls’ hockey since its founding more than 20 years ago. The Shoreline Sharks have teams playing at all competitive levels, up to national championship-bound Tier II teams.

We are excited about working together to give girls even more opportunities to play hockey at Wonderland.
